FUTURE FUNDING PLANS PDF Print E-mail

2011 Seminarian Support

The Board of Directors of Worldwide Seminarian Support plans to establish a funding base to sustain seminarian support at a substantially expanded level within three years. The current one-year cost to support a seminarian is $3100, or $258 per month. Our goal is to fund 100 seminarians in 2011. We are in the process of finding seminarians in need to fund in Eastern Europe, North and South America.

WSS has worked to develop relationships with agencies, organizations and individuals that have similar goals and to strengthen relationships currently in place, such as parishes, Knights of Columbus chapters, foundations, and individuals. The board consistently strives to keep all organizational expenses around a 10% margin of donations.

Seminary Building Fund

Since 1999, the Apostolic Life Community of Priests began construction of a new seminary building. The seminary is nearly 80% complete, and when complete, will enable ALCP to increase its annual acceptance rate of 10 to 12 new seminarians per year. ALCP receives as many as 200 applications to the seminary each year, but because of the lack of funding and space, their ability to satisfy all these potential vocations is severely limited.

The explosive growth of the Catholic Church in Africa has necessitated construction of this new seminary, which will house 78 men studying for the priesthood.

With funds already raised by ALCP and WSS, the seminary housing can now accommodate 33 seminarians, some living three per small room. This year we hope to raise funds to complete the second of three phases of construction, including a large dining hall, kitchen and storage, two large common rooms, a laundry room, restrooms, and 15 more bedrooms. To complete this phase, ALCP also needs funds for essential items and equipment, such as a large stove, two deep fryers, two refrigerators, wash-basins, door locks, electrical supplies, beds and mattresses. The estimated cost to completely finish and furnish this phase of the seminary is $50,000.

The final phase of construction will be the completion of the Chapel. The estimated cost is $58,000.  In addition to the structure itself, the chapel must be fitted out with an altar, chalices, altar clothes, priests' vestments, etc.

Indian Formation House

The Apostolic Life Community is in the process of constructing a Formation house in the Indian Province of Karunapuram in the Diocese of Warangal. The formation house will cost about $56,000 to complete. This formation house is crucial to the continued growth of the ALCP community in India, and the spread of the Christian faith in such a difficult, overwhelmingly Hindu dominated environment.

Transportation

The Morogoro seminary is badly in need of a truck that will help supply the community and enable it to achieve its goal of being self-sustaining. The estimated cost for a single truck is $25,000.

Accomplishment Our Board Members

Kevin Flinn donated, installed and landscaped (with Jason Turk's help) around a statue of Mary at the front entrance to St. Mary's Hospital. A plaque will be placed with the statue at a ceremonial blessing. The plaque will read "My Soul Doeth Magnify the Lord" and "Donated by Knights of Columbus Chapter 2075 and Worldwide Seminarian Support".

Kevin has also donated another 7 foot tall Blessed Mother statue to St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Fort  Wayne Indiana. The statue was installed as a Boy Scout troop 2 Eagle Scout project by Robert Becker.
